Social isolation is all too common among former members of the Armed Forces. Once a former soldier comes to the Royal Hospital, that all changes. Life as a Chelsea Pensioner means companionship, community and a host of opportunities. 
Transforming life for lonely veterans comes at a cost.

Giving a home to a new Chelsea Pensioner involves costs from fitting their iconic Scarlet coat to preparing a comfortable berth for them. 

We must then cover the cost of the support, equipment and transport for Pensioners to engage with a range of activities, outings and social occasions. 

The Chelsea Pensioners take their role representing the wider veteran community seriously and are keen to share some of the benefits of Royal Hospital life. They are very involved with our efforts to reach out to former service personnel who may be living isolated lives.
